Magnificat—[n] This is Mary’s prayer of praise in Luke 1:46-55. Pretty much the entire thing is lifted from the OT. Now I suppose it’s possible the Holy Spirit gave her utterance. However, we are told that Elizabeth and Zacharias were filled with the Spirit before they spoke. We are not told the same about Mary. Personally I have no trouble believing she just knew Scripture that well. There is a reason Mary “found favor with God” and any young woman who had been that diligent in learning Scripture so well would surely be extraordinary. misogynist—[n] someone who despises females

patriarch—[n] the male head/leader of a family or tribe. A man who is the oldest or most venerable of a group. The paterfamilias. Patriarchy is the societal system where these respected men are the leaders.
